The preclinical stage of drug development requires the application of rigorous scientific standards and expertise to effectively advance drug candidates from the laboratory to clinical trials. Southern Research offers clients the range of services, scientific expertise, and experience required for the design, execution, and documentation of studies during all phases of preclinical drug development.

An established, full-service preclinical laboratory with facilities located in Birmingham, AL, and Frederick, MD, Southern Research features a team of experienced scientists dedicated to our preclinical drug development program. Our scientists work closely with clients in providing standard and customized evaluation and testing of compounds from early discovery through IND submission; a primary focus is to ensure that our clients' safety and efficacy assessments are conducted according to the highest standards of quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness.

We maintain advanced laboratories featuring state-of-the-art equipment as well as AAALAC-accredited animal facilities. Southern Research executes acute/chronic toxicology and PK studies in the following species: mice, including transgenic and tumor-bearing; rats; hamsters; rabbits; dogs; mini-swine; ferrets; and nonhuman primates. In addition, we have an established history of conducting regulatory-compliant studies since the inception of Good Laboratory Practice standards (GLPs).
