Space Structures Characterization

Southern Research has a rich history in designing unique approaches to space structure characterization for both development and flight articles requiring precision performance such as optical benches, telescopes, and metering structures. Capabilities include thermally and mechanically induced distortion measurements in the sub-micron and sub-micro radian range, along with supporting thermal and mechanical load monitoring instrumentation. Test articles can consist of coupon level specimens up to multi-meter sized structures. Precision distortion testing is supported by a full suite of traditional metrology, nondestructive characterization, and decades of material engineering expertise. Equipment and support staff are available for testing on-site at Southern Research as well as for campaigns at specialized facilities such as large space simulation chambers.
