The Southern Research Angiogenesis Program offers an integrated series of in vitro and in vivo assays and analyses to screen and evaluate compounds and biological agents affecting the angiogenic process.

In vivo assays and analyses
- Chick Chorioallantoic Membrane (CAM) assay with quantitative analysis of blood vessel formation
- Xenograft CAM assay where human tumor cells are implanted on CAM, and tumor size and new blood vessel formation are quantitatively analyzed
- Matrigel Plug assay in mice with quantitative analysis of microvessel density (MVD)
- Analysis of angiogenic effect for Xenograft mouse study, including tumor MVD and levels of angiogenic growth factors in blood serum and tumor samples
- A new xenograft mouse model with regulated tumor angiogenesis and inducible metastatic phenotype, used in preclinical efficacy studies to test potential anti-cancer drugs and to evaluate new treatment modifications
