We Can Discover More Together
Southern Research in Birmingham is actually two separate campuses. The main campus covers nine city blocks adjacent to The University of Alabama at Birmingham, and offers all the amenities of a more urban and academic setting for scientists working in drug discovery and development, environmental and energy related research, and infectious disease research.
Our Engineering Research Center is located in Birmingham's Oxmoor Valley, about 15 minutes from the main campus, and has a more suburban feel in a rapidly growing area of the city.
Newsweek magazine selected Birmingham as one of 10 "Hot Cities: America's Best Places to Live and Work." The U. S. Conference of Mayors also selected Birmingham as "America's Most Livable City." The city's overall high quality of life has been recognized nationally for many years, and it is just one of the benefits of working for Southern Research in Birmingham.
Birmingham is the cultural and entertainment center of Alabama, offering a wide variety of events, entertainment, attractions, and recreation for all. Its climate, quality schools, and business-friendly attitude make Birmingham an area you will love to call home.
Important educational and entertaining attractions in the area include the McWane Center, a science museum and hands-on learning facility featuring an IMAX domed theatre; Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark, a monument to Birmingham's iron and steel heritage; and Vulcan, the world's largest cast iron statue. And you are within an easy driving distance of New Orleans, Nashville, Memphis, Atlanta, the Appalachian Mountains, and the Gulf Coast beaches for weekend getaways.
