Southern Research Institute - Birmingham, AL

Southern Research Institute in Birmingham is actually two separate campuses. The main campus covers nine city blocks adjacent to The University of Alabama at Birmingham, and offers all the amenities of a more urban and academic setting for scientists working in drug discovery and development, environmental and energy related research, homeland security and infectious disease research.

Our Engineering Research Center is located in Birmingham's Oxmoor Valley, about 15 minutes from the main campus, and has a more suburban feel in a rapidly growing area of the city.

Newsweek magazine selected Birmingham as one of 10 "Hot Cities: America's Best Places to Live and Work." The U. S. Conference of Mayors also selected Birmingham as "America's Most Livable City." The city's overall high quality of life has been recognized nationally for many years, and it's just one of the benefits of working for Southern Research Institute in Birmingham.

Birmingham is the cultural and entertainment center of Alabama, offering a wide variety of events, entertainment, attractions and recreation for all. Its climate, quality schools and business-friendly attitude make Birmingham an area you'll love to call home.

Important educational and entertaining attractions in the area include the McWane Center, a science museum and hands-on learning facility featuring an IMAX domed theatre; Sloss Furnaces National Historic Landmark, a monument to Birmingham's iron and steel heritage; and Vulcan, the world's largest cast iron statue. And you're within an easy driving distance of New Orleans, Nashville, Memphis and Atlanta, the Appalachian Mountains and the Gulf Coast beaches for weekend getaways.

Southern Research Institute - Frederick, MD

Frederick, a city full of history and heritage, is home to Southern Research Institute's Chemical and Biological Defense Division and the largest portion of our infectious disease research program.

World War II began the changing of the face of Frederick. Most notably was the establishment of Fort Detrick, a center of biological warfare research. Today Frederick is recognized for its thriving biotechnology and research environment, and Southern Research employees can enjoy living in an area that is robust in scientific discovery, but also near to some of our country's most treasured historical attractions.

With the coming of newer residents has come new ideas, and with the cooperation of longtime citizens there has been a cultural revival. The Weinberg Center for the Arts and the Delaplaine Center for the Visual Arts are rallying places for local talent and nationally known artists. The Keys baseball team makes news every year.

Frederick, as Maryland's second largest city, has a bright future with its expanding economy and stable quality of life. The city's historic Clustered Spires still inspire an appreciation of the past while looking ahead to a changing world.
