Interim Vice President
Drug Development
In July 2007, Bill Waud was named Interim Vice President for the Drug Development Division and Interim Director of Infectious Disease Research - Birmingham, positions which he holds concurrently with Director of the Cancer Therapeutics and Immunology Department to which he was appointed in 1994. From 1979, when he joined Southern Research, until 1994 Dr. Waud held various positions in Southern Research's oncology program. His areas of expertise include mechanisms of drug resistance and the design, conduct, and interpretation of in vivo studies for evaluating drugs using human tumor xenografts as well as murine tumors. Dr. Waud is a Diplomate of the American Board of Clinical Chemistry and a member of the American Association of Cancer Research.
Dr. Waud received his Ph.D in Biochemistry in 1975 from Duke University. Upon completion of his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry at the University of Illinois in 1968, he served in the U.S. Army as a Medical Laboratory Technologist after which he completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship in Clinical Chemistry at the University of North Carolina and was a Research Associate in Biochemistry at Duke University.
