John Collier manages the business development efforts and new technology programs in the Engineering division, principally for the Systems Development group. His focus areas for technology are stabilized gimbal systems, infrared and hyperspectral optical sensors, vision system processing, and control systems.
Collier joined Southern Research in 1987 as a mechanical designer supporting the development of the Army’s Fiber Optic Guided Missile (FOG-M). The success of the FOG- M system led to additional missile seeker development programs and numerous gimbal systems in which he held various roles, including lead mechanical engineer, systems engineer, project leader, and program manager.
Prior to joining Southern Research, Collier worked in the manufacturing industry developing processing facilities for oil refinement and nuclear waste containment.
He has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.
